Trip to Macon and Beaujolais, June 2016

Mid June in the Macon and I had expected the weather to be warm if not blazing hot – however we arrived at Geneva airport to grey skies and as we drove up to the Macon the weather deteriorated! Having heard and seen on social media earlier in the year reports of hail in Chablis, the Loire and Cahors things were not looking good for the Macon and Beaujolais. After meeting several wine growers on the first day of our trip, the words ‘2016 and catastrophe’ was the phrase of the day – in fact they had had a second severe hail storm just a week before we arrived. We are really excited to be one of the few select retailers to stock this new gin that is made in Christchurch, Dorset. The gin has just won double gold at the San Francisco spirit competition, which having only just launched is quite an achievement!

Lymington Gin by Dancing Cows

A welcome visit on a wet  and windy January week was to try the latest local gin from Dancing Cows. Richard opened up his brewery early last year on Lower Pennington Lane with the mission to create some artisan beers and spirits with local provenance. The latest release of gin has just arrived after several test batches. ‘Lymington Gin’ is distilled to 43% with the usual botanicals (juniper, coriander, orris root etc) with an emphasis on bitter orange, sweet almond and East Kent Goldings hops (being a brewer for over 10 years it seemed only natural!)
