Description
Offbeat Wines was established with a simple aim – to produce pure, unadulterated and enjoyable English wines.
They work with small growers who take a considerate approach in the vineyard, avoiding the use of synthetic chemicals and doing the majority of work by hand. The journey from grape to glass is also kept as simple as possible, employing age-old winemaking techniques and minimising inputs. All wines are fermented spontaneously, never fined or filtered and only receive sulphur dioxide additions when absolutely necessary.
The Solaris grapes used for this wine were lovingly grown by Kathy Archer at her vineyard just outside of Ottery Saint Mary in Devon. Kathy eschews the use of pesticides and herbicides entirely, relying on good old hard work to produce grapes of extraordinary quality. Due to the exceptional growing season in 2018 the Solaris vines produced a phenomenal crop of perfectly ripe fruit. The grapes were left to hang for an extended period, with around 10% of the crop developing noble rot. Just this small percentage adds incredible weight and a honeyed richness to the wine.
