Description
A unique and exciting wine from the Monopole brand of CVNE. Some years ago the winery were asked about their old style of Monopole. This wine had a lengthy barrel ageing in old oak and a profile in stark contrast to modern fruity whites. This original Monopole had written permission from the Rioja appellation to include a percentage of Sherry wine. The sherry added structure to the Rioja white, with them integrating together during the lengthy barrel and bottle ageing. A bottle of the 1979 vintage Monopole was found in the Haro winery. The wine was savoury and very fresh, a decision was made to make this wine again, as it had been made historically.
Tasting Note
This CVNE Monopole new version is made with 90% Viura, after fermentation the wine is blended with Manzanilla imported from Sanlucar de Barrameda and aged for 8 months in 2 year old oak barrels. The wine balances delicate apple and pear flavours with an underlying salinity and a subtle nuttiness. Very moorish and perfect with seafood, paella, white meat, and soft cheese.
