Description
The Miani Ribolla Gialla ‘Pettarin’ is the work of one of Italy’s finest white winemakers, Enzo Pontoni. Pontoni produces the uncompromisingly taut, minerally precise wines of Miani. He tends 10 hillside hectares of high-density (6-7,000 plants/ha) organic vineyards near the village of Buttrio, which are based upon the famous ‘ponca’/marl & limestone soils of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, a continental DOC sandwiched between Udine & the Slovenian border, north of Trieste (the capital of Fruli), producing a range of startling whites & statuesque reds. Yields are critically low at approx 20 hectolitres/hectare. This produces fruit of remarkable concentration, while vinification typically consists of barrel fermentation in 40% new french oak, with no malolactic fermentation.
The Pettarin is made from the Ribolla Gialla. This grape is grown predominantly in Fruili and the Pettarin is considered one of the finest examples of this varietal.
