Description

Château d’Yquem is considered to be on the same tier as the other first growths from the 1855 classification, with no serious rivals within the appellation. This was confirmed in the Sauternes classification with d’Yquem given a class of their own premier cru supérieur, a cut above mere premier cru. This has continued in the present day with no other Sauternes producer in the same price bracket. The higher price means that they are brutal with their lot selection, only new barrels are used for ageing and the wine is aged for 30 months in barrel. All this produces the finest sweet wine in the world.

Tasting Note

The 2006  lives up to d’Yquem’s first growth billing. The wine has a beguiling nose of toasted nuts and vanilla cream. On the palate rich marmalade notes coat the mouth, with a fine line of acidity drawing you back in for another glass.
