Description

Chateau Gloria is unique within Bordeaux  in how it developed. The Chateau was developed from scratch by its founder Henri Martin from 1939 onwards, but manages to achieve prices similar to classed growths, a unique achievement on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Henri Martin’s family was steeped in the history of winemaking in St-Julien. His grandfather was a maître de chai at Gruaud-Larose and his father fulfilled the same role at Saint-Pierre. With the family connections throughout St-Julien, Martin managed to buy parcels of land from many of the classified growths. Thus, Chateau Gloria is a dispersed estate, but one with some exceptional soils and some very old vines.

Tasting Note

The Chateau Gloria 2012 was made from a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The palate has a broad mixture black fruit and black cherries, with earthy notes. The wine is medium-bodied with firm tannins. This is an early drinking Gloria that will offer much pleasure in the short and medium future.
