Description

Chateau Bellevue is located on terroir packed with potential. On the plateau just North of Angelus, this is an ancient property belonging to the Lacaze family from 1642 until 1938. Unfortunately, in more recent times it was neglected by the Libournais family that owned it, with the property neglected and its vineyards overcropped. By the late 1990’s the owners realised that Bellevue’s wines lagged behind the other grands crus classés. To turn the property around they employed Nicolas Thienpont (manager of Pavie-Macquin) and consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt to run the property. They were unable to save it from demotion in 2006, but the wines had been on an upward curve from the 2000 vintage onwards.

Tasting Note

On the nose, note of red cherry and sweet cranberries intermingle with earth and thyme. The palate has crisp acidity and fine tannins with plenty of sweet red fruit and savoury olives on the finish.
