Description
Chateau Batailley has long been one of the most popular and well-known fifth growth cru’s. For many years it could be relied upon to produce competent claret. Philippe Casteja, took over the running of the estate from his parents in 2003 and brought the oenologist Denis Dubourdieu in as a consultant. Their sights are now on improving this venerable Chateau.
Tasting Note
The 2012 Batailley has compelling layers dark fruit and a touch of graphite on the nose. Gentle cassis and blackberry on the palate, the tannins are soft and the wine is open now, but will become more compelling as it evolves.
