Explore the legendary Lebanese winemakers Chateau Musar, with this selection of some of the best red vintages produced in the last 20 years, a fine example of the Musar White and an introduction to their Jeune range (made from young vine fruit with no oak). The 6 bottle case includes one of each of the following wines;
Chateau Musar 2006
A beautiful deep, ruby hue with lots of almost confected cherry, blackcurrant and cranberries on the nose with a hint of liquorice. The palate has an explosion of brambly and hedgerow fruits with blueberries and cherries – this is a mid-weight vintage from Chateau Musar with excellent acidity and fine tannins.
Chateau Musar 2001
The Musar 2001 vintage was marked by only 23mm of rainfall between March and August. This impacted most upon the Cinsault vines, thus this vintage is dominated by the rich bold Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan that thrived this year. The palate has intense flavours of red cherries, dark chocolate, olives, figs and velvet smooth tannins on the very long finish.
Chateau Musar 2000
The Musar 2000 vintage is considered to have a more Bordeaux like character than previous vintages . The colour is a deep dark red, perhaps darker than usual at Chateau Musar. The nose is a complex intriguing mixture of figs, prunes, leather, dark tea, tobacco, black olives with spices and a certain earthiness. On the palate, you will find ripe black cherries, figs, damsons-even chocolate and olives.
There is good acidity with nice smooth tannins resulting in a wine which full-bodied, rich and velvety with very long length.
Chateau Musar White 2009
Made from ancient Lebanese grape varieties Obaideh and Merwah. Reputedly, the ancestors of Chardonnay/Chasselas and Semillon, they are among only 6 indigenous grapes still cultivated in Lebanon. At the Chateau they consider their white a more serious wine than their red, a wine to contemplate over a full cheese board. This is a beautifully balanced wine with good fresh lemon acidity, tropical fruit flavours on the palate and an elegant complex finish.
Musar Jeune Red 2016
The Jeune Red is made from a blend of old vines Cinsault (50%), Syrah (35%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) from their organically certified vineyards. No oak is used, so the fresh vibrant flavours from the high altitude vineyards is maintained. Lovely black fruits nose with liquorice, mint and black olives. A good concentration of black cherry and blackberry fruit on the palate balanced with fresh acidity, soft tannins and a long after-taste of morello cherries and clove.
Musar Jeune White 2016
The Jeune White is an unoaked blend of Viognier, Vermentino, Chardonnay from youthful Bekaa Valley vines. Crisp and aromatic, this eclectic blend of French and Sicilian varieties has its own distinct personality. Notes of passionfruit, apples, and elderflowers intermingle on the palate with a dry, refreshing finish.
