Belondrade y Lurton, Rueda

Belondrade y Lurton is one of Spain’s most renowned modern white wines. Its production is spread over many international markets and is highly prized by Spain’s top restaurants. In contrast to the more prevalent, industrial style of Rueda, Belondrade has raised the bar, and is a truly individual, complex and long lived white wine. We are pleased to be able to offer a small parcel of these fabulous wines.

2012 Quinta Apolonia, Belondrade £13.99

This was Didier Belondrade’s creation to utilise the grapes from the younger vines as they came on stream. These are better suited to fermentation in tank and the blend is bolstered by the addition of between 20-30% must. The wine is also 100% Verdejo and qualifies fully for the denominacion Rueda, but Didier differentiates it further by labelling it Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon. This cuvée has now begun to show the influence of the increased maturity of the vines and also demonstrates the capacity to evolve well in bottle. The 2010 is currently really singing. Straw coloured with green tinges. Citrus fruit, hay, fennel. Full bodied good length, with savoury acidity on the finish.

Belondrade Y Lurton 2011 £28.99 a bottle

Belondrade Y Lurton has a classic pale lemon hue with gold tints. Hints of apricot stones on the nose, followed by texture and weight on the palate, with complexity and minerality. A slight touch of tropicality and sherbet. Long, textured finish.  You can feel the influence of the oak, but it does not dominate on the nose or the palate. This Rueda is made to evolve in the bottle, gaining in viscosity, texture and complexity.
