Description

In 1814, Jean Joseph Moreau, a “tonnelier” from Montbard, founded the wine-merchant and trading firm, J. Moreau et Fils, in Chablis. Then in 1974, the Moreau family decided to sell a 50 percent stake in their company to the Canadian company Hiram Walker, and in 1985, transferred the remaining shares to them. The firm J. Moreau et Fils was then sold to the the wine-trading company Boisset de Nuits Saint-Georges, since then no one in the family has been part of the company. However with the 2002 vintage, the Christian Moreau family regained their full rights, not only to use their own vineyards, but also to make and market the wines belonging to their Domaine.

Christian Moreau`s Grand Cru Valmur is a broad, opulent Chablis style. The vines average 50 years in age, the majority of which benefit from a sun-catching, south-east exposure. To complement this, there is a cooler north-west facing parcel, which brings vivacity to the blend. Aromas are elegant, ripe and concentrated with a smoky complexity. The palate is powerfully built, with intricate structure, great depth of flavour, and a long-lasting, bright finish.
